“St. Michael the Archangel-defend us in battle.....” A familiar prayer to devoted Catholics, and a consolation to the souls of the faithful. The name Michael signifies “Who is like to God”, and that is why so many Catholics feel a closeness and a reverence toward the powerful intercession of and protection of the Seraphim Prince who fought with the good angels in heaven against satan and his minions. For this reason, St. Michael is viewed as one of the chief leaders against the forces of Heaven in their triumph over the powers of hell. St. Michael's feast day is celebrated on September 29. He is the patron saint of many causes and beloved by all. These causes include: temptation, artists, firefighters, police officers, soldiers, grocers, mariners, and sickness.
