Charles was orphaned at the age of six. He ended up taking on a military career. He lost his faith as a child and valued living an easy, care-free life. However, he stornly desired to know truth, and often asked God to make himself known if he truely existed. He rediscovered God at the age of 28. Charles spent 7 years as a Trappist monk, and the became a priest at the age of 43. During his life as a Christian, he strongly desired holiness, so that people who saw him, would wonder what the Master could be like, if this was his servant. Charles was killed by a band of marauders. His feast day is celebrated on December 1st.
