Product Description

The word catechism means “instruction”. The Catechism of the Catholic Church instructs us on the teachings of the Church. It presents “an organic synthesis of the essential and fundamental contents of Catholic doctrine, as regards both faith and morals, in the light of the Second Vatican Council and the whole of the Church’s Tradition. Its principal sources are the Sacred Scriptures, the Fathers of the Church, the liturgy, and the Church’s Magisterium” (from the Prologue).

The official Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition*, clearly spells out the Church's beliefs on:

  • Love and marriage
  • Children
  • God, creation, humanity, life, death, and the afterlife
  • Mary, the Church, the saints, and the sacraments
  • And much, much more

    *The second edition is revised to conform completely with the official Latin text promulgated by Pope John Paul II in 1997, the book now also includes an extensive glossary and analytical index to make it even more "user friendly." Unlike the catechism you may have used as a child, the official Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition, doesn't have a question-and-answer format. Designed for lay use, it can be read from cover-to-cover or with its handy index, used as a resource to find a specific teaching on a specific topic. A "must" for every Catholic household. The official Catechism of the Catholic Church makes the perfect gift for graduation, Confirmation, birthdays, and Christmas. Having the Catechism to turn to is a great comfort when faced with questions about the faith or perhaps just trying to figure out where we stand as Catholics in today’s fast paced and often times confusing world. If you have ever needed a little guidance or questioned exactly what it means to be Catholic, the Catechism of the Catholic Church is an excellent and reliable resource.

    Measures 9" x 6".

I also use the CCC when reading a passage from the Bible. I go to the index look up the passage I just read and read the related paragraphs.

Catechism of the Catholic Church

By: A Catholic Who Came Home, (Northern California, March 11, 2011)
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
[...] As a reference guide, this book will have a great deal of use over a long period of time, so I was concerned that it might not stand the test. I wondered if I should have ordered something leather bound and more substantial. I examined it as closely as I could, without downright subjecting it to abuse, and it seems very flexible and well put together. Altogether a good value.

ACCURATE - "CCC Second Edition"

By: Annie (Florida USA, November 24, 2010)
Pros: A MUST for EVERY HOME;
Cons: none;
Best Uses: Sure Norm for teaching; For everyone over age 15; Makes great gifts; Doctrine - Faith Morals;
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
This "CCC 2nd Ed" covers everything we need to know about Church teachings regarding Faith and Morals. It cuts out any confusion in today's secular society. Contains all teachings of the Church that Catholics are REQUIRED to believe. This is truly a gift from the Magesterium of the Church, promulgated by Pope John Paul II, with Imprimi Potest by Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, copywrite held by the Holy See. First printing in the USA in March 2000. A previous copy that was printed in the late 1990's had translation errors. This version does not.

This is the Teaching of our Catholic Faith. If we call ourselfves Catholics then we must be able to explain our religion. The great thing about it is it lays out the foundations of our religion.It is a great read and reference. I can't find anything negative. It is genuine,systematic presentation of the faith and Catholic doctrine.

I have purchased two copies to date - one for our family and one as a gift. This is an excellent edition of a text that all Catholic families should have in their home.

Great Book Content, bad constuction

By: hal (redding ca, January 1, 2010)
Pros: Should be read many times; Comparable to the Bible;
Cons: Falls apart too fast; Built on the cheap; Should be built better;
Best Uses: Read daily with Bible;
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
I am so disatisfied, nearly to the point of outrage, with Catholic book publishers..they seem to think that nothing is better than a cheap price. I'd rather have a Catechism that is built to last through many readings. It should be available in large print, smythe sewn pages so it lays flat on any page, and have a nice flexible leather binding...price, $80.00 would be okay. To Catholic book publishers I'd like to say..."Hey! Consider your subject matter, the Author, and start building better books!" Personally I have had enough of the cheap slip shod work.Thank you for your attention and God bless us all.
