Displaying the Nativity scene in your home is a lovely tradition for Catholic families. The tradition of the Nativity, originated Christmas Eve 1223 by Saint Francis of Assisi. A nativity scene, also called a crib or crèche refers to any depiction of the birthplace of Jesus.
There are a variety of nativity sets to choose from. Most include a barn with Mary and Joseph and farm animals. On December 24th baby Jesus is placed in a manger and the following days the shepherds are added. On January 6th, Three Kings Day, the magi are added. It is customary to keep the Nativity set up until February 2nd which is the end of the Epiphany.
