St. Thomas More, also known as Sir Thomas More, was Lord Chancellor for King Henry VIII. During St. Thomas More’s political career he was duly noted for standing by his moral and religious convictions as a Catholic during the reformation. St. Thomas More refused to recognize King Henry VIII as head of the Church in England and did not support his divorce to Catherine of Aragon and later marriage to Anne Boleyn. For these reasons St. Thomas Moore was convicted of treason and suffered a martyr’s death. St. Thomas Moore was beatified in 1886.
