Catholic prayer cards and Catholic holy cards are small devotional prayers and images created for and distributed by the Catholic faithful. Catholic prayer cards have been a part of Catholic Church history for centuries. Early Catholic prayer cards were created of woodcuts surrounded by paper lace. The oldest surviving Catholic prayer card is of St. Christopher and dates back to 1423. Catholics today still pray with holy cards for indulgences, distribute memorial cards at funerals to commemorate loved ones, and carry Catholic prayer cards as general reminders of the faith.
