The size, in millimeters, is 30.00X20.00 MM St. Florian was commander of the Imperial Roman army in Bavaria, Germany. In the fourth century the emperor Diocletian began a fierce persecution of the Christians, sending Aquilinus to enforce worship of the Roman pagan gods. Florian refused, and was beaten and tortured with clubs, spikes and fire, then finally drowned with a stone around his neck in the river Enns, in what is now Austria. His feast is celebrated on May 4th, and he is the popular patron saint of firefighters.
