This book helps you to distinguish depression from similar-looking, but fundamentally different, mental states such as guilt, sloth, the darkness of sin, and the sublime desolation called "dark night of the soul" that is, in fact, a privileged spiritual trial sent as a special gift from God. You'll come to know how to identify the various types of depression and come to understand the interplay of their often manifold causes, biological, psychological, behavioral, cultural, and moral.

|Review:||I had been having some depression lately, I usually get over things okay, but the problems I have had in the past 20 years would make anyone commit suicide, so I am glad there is a book like this available. If you read it, you will see that you can cope much better! Praying the Rosary and reading the Bible and stories of the saints can help.|

|Review:||My sister in New Orleans and I both ordered this book. We have found it most helpful with our clinical depression and medical treatment of it. So thankful to have the Catholic perspective.|
