Product Description

Part of the Kingdom Studies Series.

Is there a book of the Bible more often discussed and yet less understood than the Book of Revelation? The “seven seals.” The “dragon.” The “beast.” The “sea of glass.” The fantastic imagery found in the Book of Revelation has long captivated Christians but remains mysterious to many. In the midst of so much discussion about the end times, what does Revelation teach us about living in the present moment, with our eyes focused on the heavenly Jerusalem?

Michael Barber’s latest book, Coming Soon, explores these questions by taking a detailed look at Revelation and its rich tapestry of prophecy, history, and biblical allusion. Barber explores the profound link between the Mass celebrated here on earth and the eternal reality of heaven, demonstrating that the Apocalypse reveals truth that has practical implications for today and points to a firm hope in tomorrow.

Coming Soon is a verse-by-verse commentary on the Book of Revelation using the Revised Standard Version: Catholic Edition of the Bible. Barber provides a Catholic interpretation, which sees the liturgical background of this book of Scripture—a perspective missing in many Protestant commentaries.

Study Questions: Questions at the end of each chapter help promote discussion and reflection.

Michael Barber holds a bachelor's degree in theology and philosophy from Azusa Pacific University in Southern California and a master's degree in theology from Franciscan University of Steubenville. He is currently working on his Ph.D. in Theology at Fuller in Pasadena, California.

About the Series: The Kingdom Studies explore the teaching and mission of Jesus Christ as revealed in the New Testament and carried on by His Church. Solid, trustworthy content in language anyone can appreciate.

An Essential and Effective Apologetic 5.00 out of 5

By: OJ (FL, March 18, 2009)
Pros: Deserves Multiple Readings; Superb Apologetic;
Cons: Difficult To Follow;
Best Uses: Gift; Older Readers; Younger Readers; Reference; Travel Reading;
Describe Yourself: Everyday Reader;
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
"Difficult to follow", but then the subject is complex. The difficulty is a small price to pay for the understanding received. This book, like "How the Catholic Church Built Western Civilization is a superb apologetic and directly corrects the considerable error that some detractors of The Church export vis-a-vis The Book of Revelation. I have heard it said more than once, "Do not give the young people the Catechism of the Catholic Church; it is too complicated. If we are to be able to defend our faith, and thus have adequate faith ourselves, we must read and understand "complicated" teachings. Else we can easily be led astray, even from Holy Mother Church. The book also provides an overview of the allebory, typology, parables, etc of the the Bible, emphasizes the necessity of knowing the Old Testament as a precondition of understanding the New, especially The Book of Revelation.
