OUR LADY OF FATIMA

In 1917, three shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal experienced six apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary: Lucia (10 years old), and her cousins, Francisco (9 years old), and Jacinta (7 years old). Our lady appeared to them between May and October on the thirteenth of each month. Mary asked them to pray and make sacrifices for sinners; showed them a vision of hell; predicted both of the World Wars, and asked believers to consecrate themselves to her Immaculate Heart for the conversion of Russia. On October 13, during the last apparition, 70,000 people were on hand to witness the miracle of the sun. At Fatima Mary called herself "the Lady of the Rosary."

OUR LADY OF LOURDES

The town of Lourdes is located in southern France, in the Pyrenees Mountains. Between February 11 and March 25, 1858, the Virgin Mary appeared to a young girl named Bernadette Soubirous. During her visits with Bernadette, Our Lady called herself "The Immaculate Conception". During the last apparition a spring of water appeared and Mary told Bernadette to wash herself in the waters. Even today the spring at the grotto in Lourdes is a site of miracles and healing.

OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE

On December 9, 1531, Mary appeared to Juan Diego while he was walking on Tepeyac Hill (near present day Mexico City). Mary asked Juan Diego to tell the Bishop that she wanted a church built at that site. The Bishop did not believe Juan Diego and told him to come back with a sign. On December 12, Mary appeared to Juan Diego again and told him to pick roses that were miraculously blooming in winter and take them to the Bishop in his cloak. When he emptied his cloak (tilma), an image of Mary appeared there. The tilma can be seen today in the basilica in Mexico City.
