Merry Christmas from Heaven

The year was 1989, and Christmas was
rapidly approaching.
But for John Mooney, this Christmas was different;
he was sure it would be impossible to celebrate.
Instead of the joy and anticipation he usually felt,
his heart was full of sadness.

Christmas Eve had always been a day of family celebration;
after all, it was his parent's anniversary.
The family always came together to celebrate
their marriage and the birth of Jesus.

But his beloved mother, Rita, had passed away
in August. His heart was so heavy that he couldn't
bear the thought of celebrating Christmas without her.
Nothing would be the same.

John bowed his head in sorrow, and then said a prayer.
He needed guidance. He needed hope.
He needed to have his faith restored.

Suddenly, the thought came to his mind,
"What would my mother say?"

As John prayed that night, the words to a very special poem
formed in his mind. As he quickly put the words on paper, he was filled
with a sense of comfort and peace.

When John re-read the words of the poem,
"Merry Christmas from Heaven", he could almost
hear his mother speaking to him. He knew it was
exactly what she would want him to know.

"To my family and friends,
please be thankful today,
I'm still close beside you,
In a new special way."

The poem, "Merry Christmas from Heaven"
became John's Christmas gift to his family that year.
