According
to Butler's
Lives of the Saints, St. Nicholas was known as "Champion of the
People" and served as the Bishop of Myra (Turkey) in the Fourth
Century A.D. His parents died when he was young and he used his
inheritance to help those around him who were in need. St. Nicholas can be
found in more Christian artwork than any other saint except for the
Blessed Mother. Giving presents in his name at Christmas time became
popular in Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands and became came to
America with settlers from Holland who called him Sint (Saint) Klaes
(Claus - Nicholas). His Feast day is December 6th and he
is the patron of children here in the West.
In
honor of St. Nicholas we present these popular Christmas gifts ideas!

The
Miracle of Saint Nicholas
The
day before Christmas in the small Russian village of St. Nicholas, Alexi's
babushka told him what Christmas was like when she was a girl - before the
soldiers came. Alexi wondered, "Why can't we celebrate
Christmas tomorrow?" Babushka sadly replied that it would take a
miracle after sixty years. If there truly was such a thing as a miracle,
why couldn't one happen here? This story poignantly reveals how faith and
hope can not be suppressed - by soldiers or by time. Beautifully
illustrated with original four-color paintings on every page.

The
Saint Who Became Santa Claus
Every Christmas, children around the
world wait for Saint Nicholas to visit their homes, secretly, during
the night. When they find gifts under their Christmas tree, they
shout, "Santa Claus was here! Thank you, Santa Claus!"
But Santa - Saint Nicholas -
doesn't want to be thanked. He only wants to show us how important
it is to share what we have with others, and to give thanks to God
for all the gifts we receive. Most
of all, Saint Nicholas wants us to thank God for the great gift of
the Christ Child, Jesus, who taught us how to love one another; and
whose birth is the reason that Christmas is a very special day for
all of us.
