August 15 - Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. On this day we celebrate the end of Mary's life on earth and the taking of her body and soul into heaven.
August 20 - St. Bernard, Father and Doctor of the Church. He is the patron of beekeepers and candlemakers.
August 21 - Pope St. Pius X. He is known for reforming the liturgy and reducing the age for receiving First Holy Communion. He is the patron of First Communicants and pilgrims.
August 22 - The Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Pope Pius XII established this feast four years after he declared the dogma of the Assumption of Mary.
August 23 - St. Rose of Lima, mystic and visionary and the first saint born in the Americas. Her parents were immigrants to Peru from Spain. She dedicated her life to chastity and helping the poor. She is known as the Patron of the Americas and of florists and gardeners. |
