This beautifully stunning image is a fresco painted in a corridor of the San Marco convent in Florence, Italy. The Virgin Mary and the Angel Gabriel greet each other lovingly and devoutly. Monk and artist Fra Angelico spent most of his life in the San Marco convent. He and his assistants decorated the walls of the monastery/convent between 1438 and 1450. The "Annunciation" fresco by Fra Angelico is a beautiful example of how art can be used to unify rich teachings of the Church within a single image, and therefore as a wonderful tool for teaching the Faith. Fra Angelico's famous painting is printed by a professional photographer onto transparent museum-quality cotton/satin cloth with archival pigments. The printed cloth is then hand-sewn with reeds to hold the cloth at the top and bottom. When hung in a window, the painting is stunningly transformed by the natural sunlight into an image that appears to almost glow with divine light. Because the reeds are hand-cut, sizes will vary slightly. Exclusive to The Catholic Company.
