On November 27, 1870, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to St. Catherine Laboure in Paris and asked to have a medal made in honor of her Immaculate Conception. Mary promised that “all who wear it will receive great graces.” The many miracles that resulted after this gave the medal its popular name. 1" Gold-plated sterling silver medal on 20" chain. My son was deployed to Afghanistan. After church one Sunday, we had the family gather together as the priest had done a special blessing over my son before he had left. A woman that we had never met before had come up to my son and had only spoken to him. She wished him a safe deployment. She insisted that he take the miraculous Medal with him and not to leave for Afghanistan without it. The eerie part about that.... it was the same medal that my Mother was holding when she had died 18 months ago. Needless to say, I made sure that I had gotten that medal for my son before he left. I wish him a safe deployment and a speedy return home and pray that the medal will help to keep him safe.
