Handmade St. Paschal Statue
Product Description
Patron of Chefs and Cooks
Paschal Baylon (1540-92) was a Franciscan lay brother. Born on the border of Castile and Aragon of a poor shepherd family, he tended flocks as a youth. In his early twenties, he joined his religious order. His charity to the poor and afflicted and his humility and courtesy were extraordinary even by Franciscan standards. He often served as doorkeeper and cook, feeding the other friars and vast numbers of the poor who came to the door of the friary. His ability as a baker and cook–his capacity to take simple ingredients and make delicious food–became legendary. Poorly educated, his counsel was sought by the rich and poor alike. His memorial is on 17 May. In this small image, Paschal holds a spoon in one hand and three loaves in the other.
The piece was hand carved by Hank Schlau and cast by him. It was then hand painted by Karen Schlau. Each piece comes boxed along with a history card. This piece measures 6 x 2 x 1.25 inches and can either hang or stand.

Patron of Eucharistic Congresses 4.00 out of 5

| Pros: | Beautiful craftsmanship; Good Detail; |
| Cons: | You forgot to include; Patron of the Eucharist; |
| Bottom Line: |
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
While St. Paschal Baylon was a humble laybrother, the Eucharist was brought to him in the fields because of his great love of Jesus in the Eucharist. He is specially designated as Patron of Eucharistic Congresses. The symbol of the Eucharist would be a better symbol rather than a spoon and loaves of bread (this is nice) but it doesn't tell the whole story of St. Paschal. |
