Product Description

After a week of hearing ghostly noises, a man is visited in his home by the spirit of his mother, dead for three decades. She reproaches him for his dissolute life and begs him to have Masses said in her name. Then she lays her hand on his sleeve, leaving an indelible burn mark, and departs...

A Lutheran minister, no believer in Purgatory, is the puzzled recipient of repeated visitations from "demons" who come to him seeking prayer, consolation, and refuge in his little German church. But pity for the poor spirits overcomes the man's skepticism, and he marvels at what kind of departed souls could belong to Christ and yet suffer still...

Hungry Souls recounts these stories and many other trustworthy, Church-verified accounts of earthly visitations from the dead in Purgatory. Accompanying these accounts are images from the "Museum of Purgatory" in Rome, which contains relics of encounters with the Holy Souls, including numerous evidences of hand prints burned into clothing and books; burn marks that cannot be explained by natural means or duplicated by artificial ones.

About the Author: Gerard J.M. van den Aardweg, Ph.D., is a Dutch psychotherapist in private practice. In addition to his work in parapsychology-- writing and speaking about near-death experiences and paranormal events such as those detailed in Hungry Souls-- Dr. van den Aardweg has written extensively on pro-life and pro-family subjects. He current resides in the Netherlands with his wife, with whom he has seven children and seventeen grandchildren.

Life-Changing! 4.00 out of 5

By: Catholic Wife and Mom (Richmond Hill, GA, February 10, 2012)
Pros: Eye-Opening; Informative; Accurate;
Cons: Little difficult to read;
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
A real eye-opener. Before I read this book, I prayed for the Holy Souls, but after I read it - I can now say I'm much more devoted to prayer for them. This book offered me a deeper awareness of how greatly we NEED to pray for each other. Truly, I percieve this life and the next differently now. Like another reviewer said, it reads sort of like a thesis paper - it doesn't flow very well - but if you can work through it, you'll learn a great deal and your heart and mind will be changed. Holds true to Catholic teaching. A MUST READ for all Catholics!!!

Lest we forget.... 4.00 out of 5

For those of us, (most), who have become luke warm or perhaps those who are not clear on the Churches teachings, here is clarity; the disturbing truth of what will await many of us who die in a state of grace, (no mortal sin not confessed), and those condemned to Hell for eternity. This book WILL keep many people from the fires of Hell. However, as the reader will find confirmation, all that we do on Earth will suffer an accounting: good and evil deeds. Yet, God in His most unending mercy, gives us all so many ways to lessen our after life sufferings..if only we would respond to him and be always open to his many gracies and mercies. This book must be read by anyone seeking to, truly, convert their lives and live the Holy, full life we were intended by our Creator.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
Easy and fast to read, great photos to illustrate the experiences. I'd recommend this to both Catholics and protestants, especially those who fear all things Catholic. Clarifies the difference between several types of phenomena and how to know if an apparition is evil, or worthy/in need of your prayers.

An eye opener! 5.00 out of 5

By: One woman with a voice (Northern VA, December 1, 2010) Verified Buyer
Pros: Renews my effort to pray;
Best Uses: My chosen November readin;
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
I bought this book to share with my husband who has always had a devotion to the poor souls in Purgatory with no one to pray for them. He is also visited by souls in need of attention. It combines what the Church teaches about Purgatory with scientific evidence. I have now renewed my efforts to pray for the deceased and to have mass offered on their birthdays.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
Great understanding and motivation to pray for the souls in Purgatory. Will certainly not feel like most at Funerals "well, she/he's in Heaven now". Also gives one thought about our own life on earth. How will we fare? Scary but truly eye opening.

Pros: Very informative;
Cons: A little slow;
Best Uses: Reminder of purgatory;
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
It is a good book and a good reminder to all about purgatory. I would have liked to see more hard evidence in proving the point though.
