Before the invention of the printing press, monastic monks hand lettered, illuminated, and painted books and scrolls on parchment. In the tradition of these ancient monks, Celtic artist, Kevin Dillon, has rediscovered the same medieval techniques. He crushes semi-precious stones like lapis lazuli, cinnabar, and azurite to make his own paints. Using a goose quill, the letters are meticulously applied to the calf-skin vellum. One at a time, the colors are applied, and the final illumination is achielved using 24K gold leaf. The artist's seal is imprinted into molten wax at the bottom of each piece, making every print a unique and special piece of art to be treasured for years!
