From the Horizons of Faith Collection. A strand of 100 wooden beads, the Jesus Beads are a devotional tool honoring the name of Jesus and imploring the mercy of God. Marked with a cast metal Jerusalem Cross, the beads may be tucked in an included stamped leather pouch for protected transport and storage. A 3 x 3" gift card features the Jerusalem Cross design on one side, and a brief history of the Jesus Beads and an explanation of how to use the beads on the other (click on the image to see a large image of the card). Gift packaged. Beads measure 11 1/2" long, pouch is approx. 3 x 3".

Gift Card Text reads: Jesus Beads originated in the tradition of the Orthodox and Eastern Catholic Churches. Called a Chotki, the strand may have as many as 100 beads or as few as 25. The Chotki is traditionally used as a silent "breath prayer", with "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God" prayed on inhalation and "have mercy on me, a sinner" prayed on exhalation. The Jesus Prayer, or the Prayer of the Heart, invokes the Holy Name.

From the Horizons of Faith Collection, these gift and devotional items were developed by the monks of Saint Meinrad Archabbey. They are shaped by traditional artistic and spiritual values, they celebrate the Christian faith through the use of authentic materials and simple, elegant design. Mindful of the role that art plays in the Christian tradition, these products are intended to enhance and inform faith and devotion.
