The Brown Scapular is perhaps the most well known and recognized of the scapulars. Our Lady of Mt. Carmel instituted the Brown Scapular on July 16, 1251. For this reason the Brown Scapular is most closely associated with the Carmelites. The Brown scapular is a wonderful First Communion or Confirmation gift.
