    A neophyte claiming expertise... 2.00 out of 5

    By: Tom (Charleston, SC, February 7, 2012) Verified Buyer
    Pros: Well Written; Easy To Read;
    Cons: Not Authoratative; Not What I Expected; Not Entirely Factual;
    Describe Yourself: Bookworm;
    Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
    On the whole, pretty disappointing. One of the frustrating things about being a Freemason is people who know little or nothing about the order write exposes' about it. I would not expect much authoritativeness from a book exposing the secrets of Catholicism written by someone who was only a Catholic for three years. Neither can you expect this author to know whereof he speaks when by his own admission he was only a member for three years. I was initiated into Freemasonry in 1975 and have visited Masons and Masonic Lodges all over the world. I am a 32nd Degree Mason, a Knight Templar, a Knight Mason, a Member of the York Rite College, a member of the Royal Order of Scotland, and served as Master of a Lodge. I have in over thirty years of active membership found nothing in Masonry that is incompatible with my Christian faith. I once sat in Lodge with a visiting Israeli brother on my left, a visiting brother from Berlin a few seats to my right and a Muslim brother behind us. All were perfectly comfortable, and I can think of no other place we could have gathered where this would be so. This book does have some factual information, but also a good number of mistakes, inaccuracies, misinformation and outright untruths. If you are seeking a book to reinforce a negative opinion you already hold regarding Masonry, this is the book for you. But if you are seeking an even-handed, factual treatment I recommend Freemasonry for Dummies or An Idiot's Guide to Freemasonry.
