New Mass translations are coming in Advent 2011. Now is the time to prepare for the changes to the prayers, responses, and texts used in the Mass that we're all used to. Some of the most significant changes include modifications to the Gloria, Nicene Creed, and several responses. The definitive text (Roman Missal) for the post-Vatican II reformed liturgy was made available in 1970; it was available for the first time in English in 1973. In 1975, the Holy See issued a revised text. Pope John Paul II promulgated the 3rd edition during the Jubilee Year in 2000. The new Mass changes are a result of the approval of the English translation for use in the United States. For more detailed information on the reasons for the new Mass changes, please visit USCCB. It is not too early to study up on the new Mass translations. We have several good resources for explaining, teaching, and learning the new Mass texts.
