In 1830, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared in Paris to a Visitation nun -- Sister (now Saint) Catherine Laboure -- and showed her a vision of a medal that she wished to have struck. The vision was just as you see it here: with rays (representing graces) flowing down to the earth from her outstretched hands, with an inscription surrounding, saying "O Mary Conceived Without Sin, Pray For Us Who Have Recourse To Thee." On the reverse, the vision specified an "M" surmounted by a cross, with two hearts (of Jesus and Mary) and 12 stars, recalling the words of St. John in chapter 12 of the Book of Revelation: "a Woman, clothed with the sun, and on her head a crown of 12 stars."

|Review:||I got this as a present from my grandparents when I got confirmed several years ago. I love it because it's SO unique! I've never seen another like it, and I've been going to Catholic schools for 15+ years (so I've seen a lot of miraculous medals!). I always get compliments when I wear it. It's a beautiful spin on a classic piece, and is of very good quality- I've had no problems with it and have been wearing it almost daily for 6 years.
