This unique St. Francis medal was hand carved and cast in lead-free pewter by an American artisan. Saint Francis is the Patron Saint of Animals. There are many stories that tell of St Francis having a close relationship with animals. There are accounts of a pheasant who for years strolled in and out of Francis’s cell. Some stories of his bond with the wolf of Gubbio, others of his ordering Franciscans to “see to it that the bees would be provided with honey in winter, lest they should die during the cold weather.” Even of Francis’s persuading hunters to release turtledoves they had caught.
