St. Januarius

Saint Januarius is the patron of blood banks and the city of Naples, Italy. He was a bishop during the persecutions of Diocletian and therefore was arrested and imprisoned for his faith. In attempts to kill him, he was thrown to wild beasts but they did not attack. Saint Januarius was then beheaded. His blood was preserved and dried, but on his feast day the blood liquefies. St. Januarius's feast day is September 19th.
