Saint Maximus the Confessor is best remembered today for his many mystical, ascetical, and theological writings. During his life he worked against the Monothelist heresy and attended the Lateran Council of 649. Saint Maximus the Confessor was falsely accused of treason and therefore had his tongue cut out, right hand cut off, flogged, and exhibited on the streets before being exiled. St. Maximus the Confessor's feast day is August 13th.
