This lovely St. Patrick Pewter Font is handcrafted by artisans in Ireland. The early history of pewter in Ireland goes back at least 800 years. These early pewterers produced the first utensils for domestic use, consisting mainly of tankards, plates and candlesticks. Around the 12th Century, pewter was only within the reach of the wealthy and it could be found on the tables in castle halls and in the homes of rich merchants. Later its use spread into cottages, middle class homes, and taverns. This beautiful pewter St. Patrick's Font was handcrafted in a workshop in Ireland in the same traditional way of the early artisans nearly 800 years ago. Artists are specially trained in the old casting methods and each piece is meticulously assembled and hand finished.
