Description

St. Peregrine was born in 1260 in Italy to an affluent family. At age 30 he converted to Catholicism. He joined the Servite Order and dedicated himself to caring for the sick and the poor. He practiced a penance of standing rather than sitting whenever he could. Years of this standing eventually caused varicose veins that opened and became sores. He was diagnosed with cancer of the leg at age 60. The night before his leg was to be amputated, he dragged himself to the foot of a crucifix and begged the Lord to heal him. He fell into a trance and says he saw Jesus lean down from the cross and touch his leg. When he awoke, his leg was completely healed. Today he is recognized as the patron of those who suffer from cancer. This elegant St. Peregrine statue comes with the attention to detail that always accompanies Joseph Studio pieces. He stands nicely at 10" High. Made from resin and stone.
