One of the world's most renowned masterpieces, the Summa Theologica, as the title indicates, is a summing up of all that can be known about God and humanity's relations with God. It is divided into three parts dealing with God, man, and the God-man respectively. It consists of 38 tracts, 631 questions, about 3000 articles, 10,000 objections and their answers. This brilliant synthesis of Christian thought has had a decisive and permanent impact on religion since the thirteenth century and has become substantially the official teaching of the Catholic Church. No library is complete without it.

The present edition was translated into English by the Fathers of the Dominican Province and first appeared in 1911. A revised edition was published in London in 1920, and in America in 1947. This five-volume printing is a reproduction of the 1947 Benziger Brothers edition.

Pros: Page-Turner; Deserves Multiple Readings; Informative;
Best Uses: Older Readers;
Describe Yourself: Casual Reader;
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
I am an older Catholic going through a renewal of my faith. I wanted to try reading this masterpiece. It is slow reading and at times difficult, however, I find myself picking it up as often as I can. I started out by listening to a series of CDs on the subject. It cetainly is helping me understand the word selections, etc. Every adult Catholic should attempt to read these volumes. I am gaining a new respect for the thinkers of the World. St. Thomas is at the top of that list. This will influence my thinking about my religion and will have a profound influence on who I am.
