Product Description

You may have heard that there will be some changes to what we hear and say at Mass. Mass will remain the same, but some of the words will be different.

Written by Paul Turner, a priest of the diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph, this booklet provides a brief yet deep explanation of how and why the prayers and responses of the Mass are changing. It will help you understand these new words so that you will be able to participate at Mass when the translation is ready to use. Because changes have been made to the Order of Mass since its recognitio in 2008, a second edition of Understanding the Revised Mass Texts will be available as soon as the final texts are provided.

Inside you will learn:

  • The new words we will soon say at Mass;
  • The importance and meaning of the words we hear and say at Mass;
  • The rationale and process for translating the prayers of the Mass from Latin into English;
  • The significance of the translation in relation to the parts of the Mass;
  • How deeply the Mass is rooted in scripture.

    The following changes have been made to the Order of Mass since its recognitio in 2008. These changes will be reflected in the second edition of Understanding the Revised Mass Texts.

  • The words of absolution in the Penitential Act have been modified (so that the text of the current edition of The Sacramentary is maintained;
  • The addition of "I believe" at three points in the Profession of Faith;
  • Several slight modifications to the texts of the Eucharistic Prayer;
  • The final doxology of the Eucharistic Prayer has been slightly altered.

    Tremendous Help 5.00 out of 5

    By: Cathy (Cheektowaga, NY, October 30, 2011)
    Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
    This little book is a very nice explanation of the changes and why the Mass is being changed. I have read it several times already and have begun to memorize the new prayers so I am prepared and don't stumble through the new prayers for the first few weeks. The book is also very inexpensive. I'm glad it's been provided - and at a very affordable price. Some will resist the changes and complain, but this is a good opportunity to practice a little humility and obedience to the Church. I now feel a lot more comfortable with the changes, because I've been preparing myself by using this book.

    I got the smaller book for the laity, and really liked it. I meant to order more of the same but mistakenly ordered the Leader's Edition. Make sure you read the product description closely.
