Product Description

Only a few miles from the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall - symbols of the American dream - stretches the Kensington district of Philadelphia. In the shadow of these historic symbols of opportunity and prosperity live men, women and children invisible to tourists and most of their neighbors, people battling unemployment, chronic illness, homelessness, addictions, and unrelenting poverty. The Franciscan Friars Minor came to Kensington in the 1970's and began the simple ministry of serving a warm meal to about 25 people each day. Today, the number has grown to about 500 people daily. The ministering community at St. Francis Inn includes college interns, local volunteers, and Franciscan priests, Brothers, and Sisters. Their spirituality of service, compassion and fraternity leads them to welcome men and women of all races and religions unconditionally to the warmth of the Inn. The Friars and their "family" regard their guests as brothers and sisters in Christ, and welcome them each day as if to dinner at a fine restaurant. The moving stories of the community members who serve and the guests who dine make "We Have a Table for Four Ready" a powerful program of love, laughter and tears. Running time 58:20. Suitable for family viewing but may be too intense for young children.

We have been to St. Francis Inn dozens of times over the years and had heard about this movie. It was tearful, accurate and informative. We have watched it together now as a family and will continue to share it with others. We will show it at an annual retreat, entitled "Home Sweet Home," given each year for teenagers. At this retreat, teens sleep outside in cardboard boxes overnight to raise awareness for the plight of the poor. What better way for them to become aware than to see this moving DVD. Thank you for taking an interest in St. Francis Inn and for the creation of this film. It is a treasure and we are grateful to have it in our library. Kelly Lynch, President, Mychal's Message

This is a fantastic documentary about a soup kitchen in Philadelphia run by followers of St. Francis. It is an inspirational account of poverty in our own backyard and the wonderful people doing something about it. Great for putting things in perspective. I have given it as a gift to family and friends. Viewing it will change your life.
