Year of Faith: Catechesis & Evangelization tools
The Year of Faith was announced by the Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI as a “summons to an authentic and renewed conversion to the Lord, the One Savior of the world”. The Year of Faith opens on October 11, 2012 and concludes on November 24, 2013. The Holy Father’s encyclical on the Year of Faith, Porta Fidei, means “door of faith” (Acts 14:27). According to the Holy Father, “To enter through that door is to set out on a journey that lasts a lifetime”. Once this door is opened for us at our baptism, we should never cease to grow deeper in our relationship with Christ and His Church.
As Catholics, we can respond to the Holy Father's invitation to enter into deeper conversion by doing three things. 1) Knowing our Faith, 2) Living our Faith, and 3) Sharing our Faith. Knowing our Faith means catechizing ourselves in our Catholic Faith. Living our Faith comes naturally once we know it better. Because our Faith is centered on a person, Jesus Christ, to know him better is to love him better. When we love him, this love permeates all our thoughts and actions. Finally, when we are living our Faith more fully, it will naturally overflow into our interactions with the world we live in.
