Product Description

  • Baltimore Catechism No. 1
  • Excellent resource to find the church's teachings on a specific topic
  • Combines solid Catholic doctrinal teaching with meaningful exposure to scripture

Since its 1885 debut, the Catechism commissioned by the Third Council of Bishops in Baltimore has instructed generations of Catholic faithful. With an easy to read question and answer format, the Catechism combines solid Catholic doctrinal teaching with meaningful exposure to Scripture and practical application.

The revival of interest in the Baltimore Catechism reflects Catholics growing realization that a clear, concise presentation of the truths of the Faith is just what people young and old need to appreciate, practice and defend Church teaching. Catechists and parents will find this Catechism an invaluable teaching tool as they prepare children and catechumens to receive the Sacraments and lead authentic Catholic lives. Students will find this an uncomplicated and friendly guide to authentic Catholicism.

This is the original edition of the Baltimore Catechism, with updated typesetting, a fresh new cover, larger format, quality binding and the same trusted content.

The 33 lessons contained in Baltimore Catechism No. 1 present the basics of the Catholic Faith in a manner suitable for First Communicants through fifth graders. This edition begins with a section of classic Catholic prayers, including the Lord's Prayer, Hail Mary, Act of Contrition, and more. Each of the 33 lessons starts with the famous format of phoneticized words and meanings, a mini dictionary to help with learning the vocabulary. The book ends with a compilation of common Catholic prayers and hymns, including Come Holy Ghost, O Salutaris, Tantum Ergo, hymns to Jesus and Mary, and more.

This book is numbered to correspond with the fourth volume which is the Explanation or Teacher's Guide: Baltimore Catechism No. 4.

Baltimore Cathechism

Review: Gave them as gifts to two of my childhood friends--we all attended a Catholic grade school.(late 50s early 60s) These books brought back a lot of memories.

Why are we here?

Review: We are here to know, love and serve God in this world and to be happy with Him in the next. Still fresh in my mind from 1st grade, St. Mary's Grammar school, Lynn, Massachusetts, 1953. Repetition is the mother of learning. Best Uses: Older Readers, Reference, Younger Readers; Describe Yourself: Bookworm; Pros: Deserves Multiple Readings, Easy To Read, Engaging characters, Informative

should be used to teach children

Review: If the catechism were drilled into the minds of children they always have it and God to fall back on. Many late teens and those in there early 20.s often drift away from the church, but with the info in the catechism they always have the church and God.

Review: A GUIDE TO THE GOOD LIFE OF SERVICE TO OTHERS. Best Uses: Gift, Older Readers, Reference, Younger Readers; Describe Yourself: Everyday Reader; Pros: Deserves Multiple Readings, Easy To Read, Informative
