Diptychs and Triptychs

A religious diptych or triptych describes a painting made of multiple, carved panels joined together by a hinge. A diptych consists of two panels while a triptych is made of three. Many altarpieces in Catholic churches and cathedrals across Europe were adorned with triptychs and diptychs during the Gothic and Renaissance periods. Most of the Catholic diptychs and triptychs available here are styled after the ancient traditional manner of Byzantine art, painted with egg, tempera and gold. Crafted in either Greece or Italy, a religious diptych or triptych makes for a very unique, one of a kind gift.
