Do you ever struggle to come up with meatless dinners for Fridays in Lent? We recently asked our Facebook followers what their favorite meatless dishes are, and wanted to share the top ten most popular ideas. 🙂
1. Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup
Growing up, this was always a classic Friday meal in my house. There was just something comforting about dipping a gooey grilled cheese into Campbell’s tomato soup.
2. Macaroni & Cheese
Whether it be your Mama’s homemade mac & cheese or good ‘ole Kraft, you can’t go wrong with cheesy elbow macaroni for a hearty dinner.
Cheese or veggie-laden pizza also frequented the dinner table on Friday nights during Lent when I was young. A big salad almost always accompanied our slices of pizza too.
4. Tuna Casserole
A couple cans of tuna, cream of mushroom soup, peas, breadcrumbs, and noodles can go a long way!
5. Spaghetti & Marinara Sauce
Why not eat like an Italian for a night? Spaghetti and marinara sauce (and maybe a salad) are another delicious and timeless meal sans meat.
There are countless ways to prepare this pink–well, salmon–colored fish. You can bake it, grill it, or even turn it into a salmon cake!
7. Tuna Sandwich
Who doesn’t love a classic tuna sandwich and potato chips? There are so many different ways to get creative here.
8. Broccoli Cheddar Soup
This meal is a personal favorite of mine! It’s fairly easy to make…though I generally can’t say no to Panera’s broccoli cheddar soup, either.
9. Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwiches
Why not throw it back to your childhood and have PB&J with apple slices and chips for dinner one night this Lent?
10. Parish Fish Fry
It’s common for the Knights of Columbus to host Fish Fries at your local parish on Fridays during Lent. If you haven’t been before, it’s worth checking out! And afterwards, you can stop in to pray the Stations of the Cross with your parish family.
This list has just a few of the endless possibilities that could occupy your dinner table this Lent. I would love to hear what other ideas you have for meatless dishes – please share them in the comments below!
