Holy Name of Jesus

For Catholics, Jesus’ sacred name is the object of a special devotion. Devotion to the Most Holy Name of Jesus was popularized by St. Bernardine of Siena, a 15th-century Franciscan, often symbolized by the monogram “IHS”, (sometimes called a Christogram), which is the first three letters of the Greek spelling of Jesus’ name. The month of January is dedicated to the Holy Name of Jesus, with the feast day on January 3rd.
