In this beloved image of the Madonna and Child, Mary tenderly presses Jesus to her heart. The artist, Sassoferrato, painted almost entirely of the Madonna, with a remarkable simplicity of color and composition, and only rarely used background scenery. He captured a vision of the Madonna with such exquisite beauty and devotion that set him apart from his contemporaries, using the same face with little variation in the major part of his work. It was imitated by many generations of painters. Framed ornately in gold wood, with petite beading on the interior bevel and an acanthus leaf motif on the outer edge. Various sizes available.
