Pope John Paul II was head of the Catholic Church for nearly 27 years. During that time, Pope John Paul II held a great influence over world affairs. He was named to the Time 100 list both in the 20th and 21st centuries. Pope John Paul II traveled the World over spreading the Catholic Church’s influence into third world nations and fighting the materialism of developed countries. He is referred to as Pope John Paul II The Great, and will be beatified by his successor, Pope Benedict XVI, on May 1, 2011. His feast day is October 22 - the day he was formally inaugurated to the papacy.
