St. Charbel / Sharbel

St. Charbel Makhlouf (sometimes spelled Sharbel) had a Christian upbringing, and was taught the importance of prayer. He developed a passion for the faith, and followed in the path of his two hermit uncles and adopted the monastic and hermetical life. He became a priest and rarely left the hermitage throughout his life. He devoted his time to prayer and worship. Charbel was struck ill while saying holy mass and died on Christmas eve 1898. His body was exhumed after burial and found to be incorrupt. His feast day is July 24.
