St. Ambrose

Ambrose was a successful lawyer and governor of Milan. When the bishop died in 374, Ambrose was persuaded to take his place. At the time, Ambrose was not a Christian. However, he gave in to the promptings of his citizens and was baptized, and ordained. As bishop, Ambrose gave his possessions to the poor, and worked tirelessly to defeat the heresy of arianism. St. Ambrose died in 397. His feast day is celebrated on December 7th.
