7-Decade Franciscan Rosary with St. Francis medal and wooden beads.

The Franciscan Crown, or "Rosary of the Seven Joys of the Blessed Virgin Mary" -- also known as the "Seraphic Rosary" -- is a 7-decade Rosary that focuses on the 7 Joys of Mary. It's an ancient Franciscan sacramental that has its origins in A.D. 1422. It originally consisted of one Our Father and 10 Hail Mary in honor of each of her Seven Joys -- the Annunciation; Visitation; Nativity; Adoration of the Magi; Finding Jesus in the Temple; Resurrection; and Assumption and Coronation of the Virgin.

Seven decades of 10 Hail Marys equal 70 Hail Marys, but two more were later added to make the total equal to seventy-two, the number of years that Our Lady is said to have lived on earth.

One may also add a Pater, Ave, and Gloria at the very end for the intentions of the Holy Father.

"This is a beautiful rosary, and I love the San Damiano crucifix with the blessing and Franciscan coat of arms on the back. The color of the wooden beads is warm, and the rosary itself is lightweight and a pleasure to hold. I keep my rosary in a cloth pouch to protect it when I’m not praying with it, as the wire connecting the beads feels delicate. My only disappointment is the placement of the beads next to the crucifix, which is the same as that on traditional five-decade rosaries. It’s not a dealbreaker, though, and I just pray the last two Hail Mary’s on the third and second Ave beads, then move to the first Pater and Ave beads to pray for the intentions of the Holy Father."

"It is well made and shows artistic craftmanship. The. Reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is that it only has 70 beads for the Hail Mary. My research indicates it should have 72 as tradition holds the Virgin passed to God when she was 72 years old. Where to place the two missing beads? On thought on a short tail attached to the medal used for the Hail Holy Queen. An alternative is to add two beads to the fourth mystery, adoration of the Magi, a mtstery not found in any other decade of the Rosary."
