Pope Francis’ Eucharistic Miracle in Argentina

Jesus EucharistEaster is a beautiful time to deepen our devotion to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.  The Pascal Mystery which we celebrate in a special way during the Easter Triduum—the Passion, death and bodily resurrection of Christ—is daily present to us in the Eucharist.  The Church teaches that Jesus is really, truly, and actually there—Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity—in the Holy Eucharist.

Unfortunately it is all to easy, due to human weakness, to begin to lose our sense of awe, wonder, and adoration of Our Lord in the Eucharist.

A great way to reinvigorate our belief and to encourage devotion to Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament is by reading accounts of Eucharistic miracles that have occurred throughout the ages of the Church, from the earliest years to modern times. In fact, Jesus gives us these miracles throughout the centuries so that our love for him in the Eucharist will not wane or grow cold.

If you haven’t had the chance to visit a Eucharistic Miracle exhibit, I highly recommend it.  You can read many of the accounts online at the Real Presence Eucharistic Education and Adoration Association website.  Click on the “English” tab and scroll down until you see “Miracles by Country”.   Each of those hyperlinks opens to a PDF document of various documented, Church-verified accounts of Eucharistic Miracles.

One recent account of a scientifically analyzed Eucharistic Miracle was witnessed by our own Pope Francis while he was Cardinal Bergoglio.  We’ve included two accounts for you below, a blog article written about the miracle as well as a YouTube video by one of the witnesses. Hopefully reading and viewing these accounts will deepen your awe and reverence when receiving Holy Communion, and also encourage you to spend more time in Eucharistic Adoration.

Cardinal Bergoglio’s Eucharistic Miracle in Argentina

A recent documented account of a Eucharistic Miracle took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1996 under the leadership of Cardinal Bergoglio, now Pope Francis:

At seven o’clock in the evening on August 18, 1996, Fr. Alejandro Pezet was saying Holy Mass at a Catholic church in the commercial center of Buenos Aires. As he was finishing distributing Holy Communion, a woman came up to tell him that she had found a discarded host on a candleholder at the back of the church. On going to the spot indicated, Fr. Alejandro saw the defiled Host. Since he was unable to consume it, he placed it in a container of water and put it away in the tabernacle of the chapel of the Blessed Sacrament. On Monday, August 26, upon opening the tabernacle, he saw to his amazement that the Host had turned into a bloody substance. He informed Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio, who gave instructions that the Host be professionally photographed. The photos were taken on September 6. They clearly show that the Host, which had become a fragment of bloodied flesh, had grown significantly in size. For several years the Host remained in the tabernacle, the whole affair being kept a strict secret. Since the Host suffered no visible decomposition, Cardinal Bergoglio decided to have it scientifically analyzed. Read more here.

  3. The Easter Triduum is the passion of the Lord…Thursday with the Last Supper, the
Institution of the Priesthood, the Washing of
the feet and the arrest of Jesus; Friday is
the trial, torture and carrying of the Cross
and Crucifixion; then the Resurrection of
    the Lord Jesus!

  5. Bev says:

I do believe that this is possible. It makes me sad that there are so many non believers in the world, and that there are people who would like nothing more than to silence those who speak of Christ, and our Heavenly Father. Peace be with us all.

  6. LaVonna Jones says:

  13. God be praised forever. Only the One from the Father could have performed such an extraordinary and awesome deed.
How many other wonders He sends to this spiritually dense world!

  14. elvira says:

I watched the Video and for me it was a moment of reflection and awareness of God’s love for mankind Also a feeling of the greatness of God. It made me more aware of what Holy Communion means to us Catholics. Praise the Lord now and for ever.

  15. Evelyn Sciales says:

This happened because as Pope Francis has stated. Argentina has lost the faith. This was Jesus working a miracle to bring back belief in his true presence in the Holy Eucharist. Pope Francis did the right thing to keep it secret until scientists could examine the tissue. So what we learn is when we receive Holy Communion, we are receiving the Sacred Heart of our Lord and Savior. Thank You Jesus for this gift to us. So sorry that man has desecrated it, defiled and blasphamed your Sacred Heart.

  16. Mary Kieffer says:

Beautiful. as a Eucharistic Minister, this has increased my appreciation and reverence for Eucharist.

  17. William says:

Why couldn’t the priest just consume the host? Why did he place the host in water in the tabernacle? That is a strange way to reserve the host.

  19. Robin says:

Yes, I also wondered why the priest wouldn’t have simply consumed the host. Why did he think he couldn’t and why put it in water?
Nevertheless it is an amazing story and I hope it is really true and not phony and that it might possibly give comfort to many.
Either way,I believe in transubstantiation and that Jesus comes to us in Communion because he said so at the last supper.

  20. victoria davis says:

truly a must read. It is wonderful what the Lord can do. readig this brought tears to my eyes I do believe this is possible.

  21. Angela says:

The most Sacred Heart of Jesus was given as a miracle to help us believe in the true presence of his body and blood in the most Holy Eucharist.

Per the website below, a “defiled Host’ is dissolved in water so that it may be disposed of in a special place in the sacristy called the sacrarium — a special sink with a pipe that bypasses the sewer, but goes straight into the earth. This sink is made like this to preserve the dignity of sacred things which can no longer be used.

  22. In this Eucharistic Miracle comes the power of Holy Spirit in our lives, that many more may believe, including doubters like Thomas.

Alas, as Jesus said to Thomas and to His apostles in John 20:29, ‘blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed,’ may we become stronger in our faith in this, and gain courage in proclaiming the truth in His words and be continually blessed and guided with our love ones with love, compassion, truth and peace in our hearts, to give greater glory to Him our Lord and Master, our God in Jesus, our All in All.

  23. T Fisher says:

I shared this wonderful miracle with my CWL ladies in South Africa. Some ministers of the Eucharistic said it was nonsense. But I believe it happened and it was a wonderful experience for some of us. I would like to know a website where Pope Francis has authenticated this miracle just to prove to the non-believers.

  24. Ray Lanfear says:

A few weeks ago at St. Sharbel Maronite Catholic Church, in Las Vegas, a statue of St. Sharbel started to “bleed oil” after 2 visiting priests from Mexico, said Mass there. Not a hoax. I visited the statute myself and saw the oil pouring from the head and over the chest and arms. The statue is being guarded by the Knights of Columbus 24/7 for its protection. If your ever in Las Vegas, you can see the statute at St. Sharbel Maronite Catholic Church.

There have been over 300+ miracles attributed to St. Sharbel. For more information simply google “Miracles of St. Sharbel, and see for yourself.

  25. Mike says:

Strange that Francis supposedly had the host tested, but had never made a pronouncement of whether this was worthy of belief or not. This has not been approved by the Church. Also strange that Zugibe never published the results in a peer-reviewed journal. We are simply taking his word for it. He is a known miracle researcher and promoter and I’m sure he knew why the sample was given to him to test. He has tested and approved of Catalina Rivas, who is a fake stigmatist. He needs to be more forthcoming with the methods and results of testing and whether the Church reviewed it. Have to give this one a thumbs down.

  26. ABIN THOMAS says:

The world needs this type of miracles from jesus, and all the catholics must strnghthen their beliefs in catholicsm.

  27. A Henneberry says:

The priest didn’t want to consume the Host probably because It had been in someone’s mouth before they left It on the candlestick.

I also wonder why this miracle wasn’t promulgated.

  28. Mike,
I’ve just read your comment. I believe the extraordinary miracle was never publicised because of media hype, and the danger of satanism.
Many a good Catholic host has been viciously desecrated by these evil beings.
See if you can get hold of Wallace Johnston’s recordings of “Miracles for moderns”. It’s an eye opener.
    God bless.

  29. matata wilson says:

It is true that God does exist and there is no doubt about that.Anyway am not even surprised about the miracle.Praise be to GOD………

  30. Jacob Matheckan says:

This is God’s miracle to tell us He cares for us and wishes that we walk in his fold.May His blessing be on each of us and all our families.

  31. Priscillia says:

    This is truly awesome.

  32. I strongly believe that God permits such extraordinary circumstances to simple remind us of HIS REAL and TRUE existence. Christ please have mercy on us. Praised Be The Lord

  33. I strongly believe that the Almighty God permits such miracles to shake us a bit as if to say ” Hello I am still here. Why do you forsake me.” When such things happen, I understand it will be time to pray, and pray more. Oh God please delivers us from evil and guides us through our way to meet you. Thank you Lord

  34. Kate says:

I always hear about this but I can never find any hard sources… you’d think that the lab results would be available somewhere???

  35. Rev Chrys Aladi says:

We dont need to see in order to believe. We walk by faith and not by sight. Dear Kate, even when you have all the lab results you’ll still have some doubts if there is a leaven of doubt in you. You dont need who gives you the result, you need Jesus to augument your faith. More Blessed are those who believe without seeing first.
Jesus is Really Present in the Blessed Eucharist.
    Love ya all!!!

  36. Jim says:

    +
As a teacher of Theology I show the video on the Eucharist Miracles (“This is My Body” “This is My Blood”) every school year.
This new miracle can add to the stories that I tell my students. Thanks and Praise the Lord!

  37. Marty says:

I would like to know what happened to the original tissue sample that had lived in the container of distilled water. The essence of that tissue sample are sacred, based on the results of the testing and, thus, should be protected. If it is still alive, then the tissue sample needs to be treated with some reverence and perhaps even put on display.

  38. Ann Latz says:

I believe in the Real Presence. I wonder if knowing about these Eucharistic Miracles would help those who used to believe but now have left the Church.

  39. Dolores says:

Just awesome! You don’t have to see it to believe it. If you believe in
Jesus, his miracles, his death and resurrection–the power he has.
Jesus can do anything– so why not turn mere bread into his body and
blood. He does not share bread with us but himself. What better way
but through the Eucharist. Food for the soul.
I only wish that we would hear more about this at church through the
priest during his homily. Some people have no idea that these miracles occur.

  40. vincentia says:

I thank God for his everlasting love and mercy to all of us inspite of our unworthiness.I pray Jesus teaches me how to pray and love him from the bottom of my heart so as to benefit fully from the Eucharist Sacrament.I believe in God who can do anything impossible by man.May he forgive me for having received him always in Eucharist without preparing myself well.Glory and praise be to God Amen.

  41. joe cassar says:

Just contemplate the Eucharist and all the Knowledge of the world becomes irrelevant

  42. Esther Garampil says:

I give lots of copies of diff Eucharistic miracles from the Real Presence web. Esp to those whose faith are becoming weak.. I love Jesus w/ all my heart, mind & soul
