The Memorare
Remember,
O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known
that never was it known
that anyone who
fled to your protection,
implored your help or
fled to your protection,
implored your help or
sought your intercession,
was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence,
I fly unto you,
O Virgin of virgins
my Mother;
to you I come,
before you I kneel,
sinful and sorrowful;
O Mother of
to you I come,
before you I kneel,
sinful and sorrowful;
O Mother of
the Word Incarnate,
despise not my petitions,
despise not my petitions,
but in your clemency
hear and answer me.
Amen.
Amen.
The Memorare, Latin for 'remember', is a powerful prayer invoking the intercession of the Blessed Mother. Many attribute the origin of this prayer to St. Bernard of Clairvaux, a 12th century Cistercian monk. However, Fr. Claude Bernard, a 15th century French priest gets credit for popularizing it. Some also believe that he may be the creator of the Memorare.
