Product Description

  • The Church Under Attack: Five Hundred Years That Split the Church and Scattered the Flock
  • A powerful book that exposes myths and firmly shares the truth of history
  • Fascinating and inspiring
  • A plunge into history that guide readers to hope

Here’s an unabashedly Catholic history that documents scores of sustained and unprecedented assaults on our Catholic Faith these past five centuries and delineates our Church’s brave response to each one.

For five hundred years, from Luther to Marx, through Darwin, Hitler, and Rousseau, wave after wave of cynical anti-Catholic men and movements have wrought havoc even worse than that of Attila the Hun and Genghis Khan, leaving our once noble Christendom a ruined city, devastated politically and spiritually, morally and intellectually.

They’ve ripped the heart from our culture’s chest: the Catholic Faith that once gave life and strength to her body. They’ve wounded even the Church herself.

Celebrated Catholic historian Diane Moczar counters here with an unflinching sketch of these five woeful centuries with sound reasons for hope. For, as she demonstrates, even after five hundred years of sustained persecution, our Church has not merely survived but continues in many places to flourish.

Almost two thousand years ago, Tertullian noted that the “blood of the martyrs is the seed of the Church,” a truth borne out these past five hundred years.

Time after time, as Moczar shows, persecution has not snuffed out the Faith but has brought forth great saints whose holy deeds and brave examples frustrated their persecutors by communicating to the besieged Church a vigor greater than that of her persecutors.

These pages will renew your confidence that the Church is indeed Christ acting in the world and that no matter how strong or ruthless or vicious her opponents, she will not be vanquished but will endure to the end of time.

church under attack

Review: there are very few books that catch my attention, probably because most are biographies, this book got my attention because not only does it talk about history but it actually taught me something that was never taught to me in school about my country and my religion and how all the rest came to be. It also related to the issues that have been raised in this country recently, I was astonished to see the similarities between the 18th century and what is going on today in America. Recommend.

The Church Under Attack

Review: Great history, though I hoped it would better arm one for defending the church on a less academic level.

The Church Under Attack

Review: One of the best books I've read in a long time. Very informative, truthful, and very well written. There's nothing like learning the truth. Highly recommended.

The Church Under Attack Book

Review: This is a very good book and gives the reader some additional information on the history of the times from Christ to present and how certain events have been misinterpreted over time or even forgotten in modern literature.

Packed full of history

Review: Diane Moczar packs all of her books with historical facts that make your head spin but it is so readable and so enjoyable. Her humor in the midst of these happenings is a delight. After one of her books, you will want to read more. And I suggest Islam at the Gates, which is so pertinent to today also. She is simply amazing in her grasp of facts, how they all interact and how to present it so that anyone can enjoy it...even people who have never been history buffs, such as I. She's the best!
