Prayer to St. Peregrine for Cancer Sufferers

May 01, 2017 by

St. Peregrine Laziosi (d. May 1, 1345) was a Servite priest (Order of the Servants of Mary) who was the victim of a spreading cancer in his leg. The disease was so painful and foul that he was scheduled for an amputation.

Peregrine spent the night before the operation in prayer, both for his leg to be saved, and, if God chose this suffering for him to bear,  that he would receive it with humility and trust.

In answer to his prayer, Peregrine received a vision of Christ who touched the diseased area of his leg. The next morning, Peregrine found his cancer completely healed. Ever since, St. Peregrine has been the patron saint of cancer patients, skin diseases, AIDS sufferers, and the sick. His feast day is May 1st.

Below is a prayer for the intercession of St. Peregrine on behalf of those who suffer from cancer. St. Peregrine, pray for us!

St. Peregrine Prayer for People with Cancer

O great St. Peregrine, you have been called "The Mighty" and "The Wonder-Worker," because of the numerous miracles which you have obtained from God for those who have had recourse to you.

For so many years you bore in your own flesh this cancerous disease that destroys the very fiber of our being, and who had recourse to the source of all grace when the power of man could do no more.

You were favored with the vision of Jesus coming down from His Cross to heal your affliction. Ask of God and Our Lady, the cure of the sick whom we entrust to you.

(Pause here and silently recall the names of the sick for whom you are praying)

Aided in this way by your powerful intercession, we shall sing to God, now and for all eternity, a song of gratitude for His great goodness and mercy. Amen.
