- Created as he endured the loss of his own child
- Richly colored and beautifully framed
- Designed and produced exclusively by The Catholic Company
In 1875 William-Adolphe Bouguereau lost his eldest son Georges to poor health, inspiring the French artist to create a work that would express his anguish at the loss. He completed The Pieta, 1876 the following year. This piece beautifully showcases his vision and attention to detail, combining it with the power of emotion conveyed through the sorrowful eyes of Our Lady. A thought-provoking piece capturing the moment which earned our salvation, it is presented in an elegant gold frame for easy hanging or a standing display.
