This Madonna and Child statue is based on the popular "L'Innocence" painting by William-Adolphe Bougereau. He followed the classical style of 16th century painters such as Raphael, and painted for a number of Catholic churches throughout the latter 1800s. 

Here, the Virgin Mary cradles the Christ Child as well as a little lamb, symbolic of His future sacrifice.
