Is the medal gold filled? Can the medal come off the chain? Will it tarnish?
Thank you for your question. This medal is gold plated over brass. We would not recommend removing the medal from the chain, as opening the jump ring then trying to close it back could result in your losing it once it's on the other chain. A jeweler may be able to help you by soldering it to seal it completely, but in general we find it best not to open the jump rings then try to close them again. I can say from personal experience that my teenage son has lost two sterling silver medals that way when he tried to place them on another chain, so that would be something to do with care or with a professional. This is a lovely piece, unusual since it is a round miraculous medal and not the traditional oval, and since the chain is subtly beaded which gives it a feminine and distinctive look.
