What is the care for this necklace? Can i wear it in the shower?
Thank you for your question. Chlorine, salt water, perspiration, soaps, perfumes, lotions and hairsprays can all age gold plated jewelry over time and affect the finish. This gorgeous piece is a very high quality devotional piece made by a wonderful artisan who is among our favorites. She indicates that it should not be worn in the shower, bath, swimming, or exercising if you want to keep it as pristine as possible, so the gold plated finish will last. The gold plating is heat bonded but chemicals present in perfumes, hair spray, lotions, sweat, and chlorine can break it down over time. This ex voto piece is gold plated jeweler's brass. The best way to keep the piece looking beautiful is to keep it from moisture, put it on after spraying hairspray or perfumes, and clean it with a soft jeweler's cloth. You can also store it in the velvet bag you receive which contains protective properties.
