Featured here is Madonna of the Streets, originally called The Madonnina, or Little Mother. Painted by Roberto Ferruzzi in the 1890's, it was not meant to be religious, but was a portrait of a young girl Ferruzzi encountered on the streets, caring for her brother in poverty.

Over time it became associated with Our Blessed Mother gently caressing the sleeping baby Jesus, sheltering Him in her blue mantle and gold veil against the dusty walls that illustrate the poverty known by the Holy Family. What a moving reminder of all they endured for love of souls.
